Eleven wounded in Walmart stabbing attack
The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident, describing it as a “multiple stabbing,” but said details remain limited. All 11 victims were taken to Munson Medical Center for treatment.
Sheriff Michael Shea told reporters that the stabbings occurred near the store’s checkout lanes and appeared to be random. He noted that bystanders played a role in subduing the attacker, who was armed with what Shea described as a "standard holding knife."
A video circulating online shows a civilian holding the suspect at gunpoint and ordering him to drop the weapon.
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino stated that federal agents are assisting the local investigation.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer extended her sympathies to the victims and praised first responders for their quick actions in capturing the assailant.
The United States has experienced a growing number of violent attacks in public places, including malls and shopping centers. In one such incident in 2019, a gunman killed 22 people at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas.
