New National Poll Finds Overwhelming Majorities of Voters Want “America First” Reforms of Big Pharma’s Business Practices, Want to Limit Direct-to-Consumer Pharmaceutical Advertising, & Support President Trump’s Executive Order on Drug Pricing

WASHINGTON, June 11, 2025 /BUSINESS WIRE/ --

Today, the Pharmaceutical Reform Alliance (PRA) announced the results of a nationally representative poll of American voters, who overwhelmingly agree that it’s time to rein in Big Pharma, hold them accountable for soaring prescription drug costs, and implement commonsense reforms that make prescription drugs more affordable and more accessible for Americans.

The poll was conducted by Republican polling firm National Research, and its President, Adam Geller, who is also a pollster for Preserve America, President Trump’s SuperPAC.

The poll, conducted among 1,000 registered voters across the United States from May 28-June 1, 2025, found significant consensus among substantial majorities of American voters from across the political spectrum. The poll’s key findings include:

Majorities of voters have difficulty paying for rising prescription medications and blame “Big Pharma.”

  • 86% say they or someone in their household “take(s) prescription medications.”
  • 85% say “prescription medication prices in the United States have been getting…more expensive.”
  • 51% say they or someone in their household has had “difficulty affording prescription medications.”
  • 63% say “NO” when asked, “Do you feel the price you pay for prescription medications is fair?”
  • 81% AGREE “Big Pharma raises medication prices every year, ripping off American families.”
  • 67% say “YES” when asked, “Do you personally feel that you’ve been taken advantage of by Big Pharma, in terms of paying high costs for medicines you or a family member need?”
  • 79% say they hold an “unfavorable” opinion of the pharmaceutical industry (43% “very unfavorable”).
  • 84% say they hold the pharmaceutical industry “most responsible for the high cost of prescription medications.”

American voters want “America First” reforms to lower prices and support President Trump’s Executive Order.

  • 77% say it is a critical (35% critical) or high (42%) priority to “reduce prescription medication prices in the United States.”
  • 94% SUPPORT “reform efforts to reduce the price of prescription medication in the United States.”
  • 85% SUPPORT “‘America First’ pharmaceutical reforms so that the cost for prescription medications for American patients matches the costs in countries with the lowest prices.”
  • 96% AGREE (82% strongly agree) that “prescription medications that are developed with your tax dollars should be provided at a low cost to Americans.”
  • 78% SUPPORT President Trump’s May 12th “Delivering Most-Favored Nation Prescription Drug Pricing to American Patients” Executive Order.
  • Notably, 61% of Democrats and 59% of Harris voters SUPPORT the President’s Executive Order.

American voters support significant reforms of Big Pharma’s Direct-to-Consumer Advertising.

  • 89% SUPPORT “requiring pharmaceutical companies to disclose the price of the medicine in any direct-to-consumer advertising they do.”
  • 79% SUPPORT “eliminating tax breaks for medication companies’ direct-to-consumer advertising expenses.”
  • 75% SUPPORT “restricting direct-to-consumer prescription medication ads — like those on TV — that provide news networks with big advertising profits and may skew or bias their news coverage on Big Pharma.”
  • 74% SUPPORT “restricting direct-to-consumer prescription medication ads — like those on TV — that often result in people asking their doctors for prescriptions they may not need or may not be suited for their conditions.”
  • 66% SUPPORT “Health & Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the MAHA Commission’s proposal to limit direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical advertising.”

Overwhelmingly, American voters support additional reforms of Big Pharma’s business practices.

  • 90% AGREE “congressional candidates should stop taking large political donations from Big Pharma because it is a conflict of interest.”
  • 85% SUPPORT “revising the patent process for prescription medications in order to bring less expensive generic versions of the same medication to market faster.”

Electorally, American voters would support congressional candidates who are anti-Big Pharma.

  • 86% would be MORE LIKELY TO SUPPORT “a congressional candidate who wants to force Big Pharma to lower prescription medication costs for American consumers.”
  • Notably, 94% of MAGA Republicans would be MORE LIKELY TO SUPPORT versus 72% of Traditional Republicans.
  • 78% would be LESS LIKELY TO SUPPORT “a congressional candidate who takes donations from Big Pharma.”
  • Notably, 86% of MAGA Republicans would be LESS LIKELY TO SUPPORT versus 63% of Traditional Republicans.
  • 77% would be MORE LIKELY SUPPORT “a congressional candidate who wants to restrict the amount of advertising that Big Pharma can buy on news networks that are supposed to produce impartial, unbiased journalism and news.”
  • Notably, 90% of MAGA Republicans would be MORE LIKELY TO SUPPORT versus 65% of Traditional Republicans.

Commenting on the poll’s findings, Pharmaceutical Reform Alliance spokesman and former U.S. Representative J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) said, “Americans are speaking loudly and clearly, so it’s important for Congress to listen: the time to join President Trump in lowering prescription drug costs is NOW. From coast to coast, the American people are suffering from high prescription costs, and they rightly blame Big Pharma. Simply stated, it’s time for Big Pharma to put America first…not last. As a former member of Congress, it’s obvious that the results of this poll are clear and convincing. No doubt those currently serving on Capitol Hill are hearing the same message from their constituents. With the 2026 primary season ahead, those in the House and Senate need to take action. Voters are watching."

In short, American voters want reform now and can’t afford to wait. Congress should follow the Trump administration’s lead and abide by the will of the people. It can do so by bringing down the cost of drugs, holding Big Pharma accountable for its anti-competitive tactics, and demanding transparency in order to protect Americans from Big Pharma’s misleading marketing practices.

“In case it wasn’t clear before, it’s clear now,” added pollster Adam Geller. “American voters are telling us they want ‘America First’ reforms and that they will vote for congressional candidates who follow President Trump’s lead and who will push for these reforms. Based on our poll, anyone running for Congress, and especially those looking to court MAGA Republican voters, would be wise to advocate for these reforms.”
